Kentucky basketball roster and coaching staff largely set for season

Kentucky basketball head coach Mark Pope indicated that the team’s roster and coaching staff appear largely set for the upcoming season. While one roster spot remains open following the departure of Missouri transfer Mark Mitchell—who decided not to pursue eligibility due to SEC transfer regulations—Pope stated that the current group is what the team expects to use for competition, though he remains open to future opportunities.

Regarding the coaching staff, Pope expressed high satisfaction with the current synergy after adding Mo Williams as an assistant to help replace departing coaches Jason Hart and Alvin Brooks III. He noted that while the staff could technically grow, he is pleased with how the current team is functioning.

On the tactical side, Pope emphasized that the offseason focus on recruiting ‘creators’ has been successful. He noted that the team now possesses players capable of creating opportunities at all five positions, which supports an offensive style centered on ball movement and cutting. Specific mentions included the backcourt duo of Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins, as well as center Malachi Moreno, who has shown significant growth in playmaking capabilities.
