Kentucky defeats Penn State at Wrigley Field in volleyball challenge

No. 3 Kentucky defeated No. 13 Penn State 3-1 in the inaugural Big Ten-SEC Volleyball Challenge held at Wrigley Field. The match, part of a week-long showcase, drew the largest crowd in Kentucky volleyball history.

Kentucky secured the victory with 21 kills from Brooklyn DeLeye and a season-high 48 assists from Kassie O’Brien. The Wildcats maintained a significant hitting advantage, hitting .281 compared to Penn State’s .173, and forced 27 hitting errors from the Nittany Lions. Other notable performances for Kentucky included 15 kills from Morgan Gaerte and 12 kills from Asia Thigpen.

Penn State’s effort was led by Kennedy Martin with 16 kills and Whitney Lauenstein with 13 kills. Despite a rally in the third set to extend the match, Kentucky closed out the fourth set with a .394 hitting percentage to secure the win.
