Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear urges Sen. Mitch McConnell to disclose health status

Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky intensified pressure on Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, demanding a public update on the 84‑year‑old senator’s undisclosed medical condition. Beshear posted on X and sent a formal letter to McConnell, saying constituents are “increasingly concerned” about his ability to serve and urging an end to speculation.

McConnell has been absent from the Senate for three weeks after being hospitalized in early June for unspecified symptoms and was reportedly found unconscious at home, with leaked audio suggesting a possible heart attack. His office has not provided details or a timeline for his return. In the meantime, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Whip John Barrasso have spoken with McConnell, while his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, traveled to China, stating his condition did not require an immediate return to Washington. Former President Donald Trump said he had “no idea” about McConnell’s health, and the White House declined comment.
