James Farthing, $167M Powerball winner, arrested in Kentucky

James Farthing, the Kentucky man who won a $167.3 million Powerball jackpot in April 2025, was arrested early Sunday morning in Georgetown. Deputies from the Scott County Sheriff's Office found Farthing asleep in the passenger seat of a running white Ford Mustang in a Walmart parking lot.

According to arrest citations, Farthing was discovered after a caller reported a vehicle stopped in the middle of an intersection. Upon arrival, officers had to repeatedly knock on the window to wake Farthing from a stupor. Authorities reported that he showed signs of impairment, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and the smell of alcohol and marijuana. While Farthing claimed a woman had dropped him off, surveillance footage reportedly showed no one exiting the vehicle before police arrived.

This incident marks Farthing's fifth arrest since winning the state's largest-ever Powerball prize. His previous legal issues include charges of domestic violence, battery on a law enforcement officer in Florida, intimidating a participant in a legal process, and a hit-and-run incident in Lexington.
