Kentucky State Trooper Hayden Phillips killed in I-65 shooting
Kentucky State Trooper Hayden Phillips, 30, was fatally shot while conducting a traffic stop on northbound Interstate 65 in Warren County on Monday afternoon. The incident, described by Kentucky State Police as a “severe attack” on law enforcement, prompted a statewide Blue Alert and a massive manhunt for a suspect driving a bluish-gray 2025 Honda Civic with Alabama temporary tags.
Following the manhunt, the suspect, identified as 51-year-old Emonnie Branch of Portland, Tennessee, was apprehended by the Louisville Metro Police Department in Jefferson County. Branch faces a charge of murder of a first responder.
Phillips, a three-year veteran assigned to KSP Post 3 in Bowling Green, is survived by his wife and three children. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and KSP Commissioner Col. Phillip Burnett Jr. both issued statements honoring Phillips as a hero and expressing condolences to his family.
