Kentucky rallies to beat South Carolina 35-34 in overtime
No. 24 Kentucky secured a 35-34 overtime victory against South Carolina in Columbia, marking the Wildcats' largest road comeback in program history after trailing 17-0 in the second quarter. Quarterback Kenny Minchey led the rally with 272 passing yards and three touchdowns. Following a touchdown pass to Henry Boyer in overtime, Kentucky successfully completed a two-point conversion to Willie Rodriguez to seal the win.
Kentucky head coach Will Stein attributed the decision to attempt the two-point conversion rather than kicking an extra point to limited player availability. The Wildcats entered the game with seven players unavailable, including wide receiver DJ Miller and linebacker Tavion Wallace. Stein noted that with a depleted roster, the team opted to go for the win immediately.
The loss leaves South Carolina with a 2-3 overall record and an 0-3 record in the Southeastern Conference. The defeat has intensified scrutiny of head coach Shane Beamer, who faced significant booing from home fans following the game. Beamer, whose buyout is estimated between $20 million and $25 million, stated he remains supported by the administration despite the team's recent struggles and blown leads.
