Kentucky Wildcats defeat Youngstown State 45-13 in season opener

The Kentucky Wildcats opened their football season with a 45-13 victory over the Youngstown State Penguins, marking the debut of head coach Will Stein. The win featured the highest point total for a Kentucky season opener since 2021.

Quarterback Kenny Minchey led the offense, completing 18 of 27 passing attempts for 301 yards and four touchdowns. Running back CJ Baxter contributed two rushing touchdowns. Freshman receiver Kenny Darby recorded 74 receiving yards on three catches.

Defensively, the Wildcats' linebackers were noted for their performance, though the secondary saw some lapses as starting cornerbacks Terhyon Nichols and Hassan Sykes sat out the matchup. Kentucky is scheduled to face Alabama in their next game.
