Kenya advances major highway and road construction projects

Kenya is advancing several major road infrastructure projects aimed at improving regional connectivity and economic access.

On the Isiolo-Mandera highway, a 740-kilometre project, the World Bank has finalized its financing commitment. The entire route is now fully funded through contributions from the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and Arab development funds. Roads and Transport Principal Secretary Mohamed Daghar announced a completion target of June 30, 2030. More than 50 kilometres of the Ksh168 billion highway have already been paved. Once finished, the corridor will link Meru, Isiolo, Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera counties, providing a vital transport link toward Ethiopia and Somalia.

Simultaneously, construction is progressing on the 42-kilometre Ukia-Emali (B107) road in Makueni County. Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo reported that the project is on track, with the first phase involving the upgrade of the 20-kilometre Emali-Matiliku section to bitumen standards. The project aims to connect Emali, Matiliku, and Ukia, with future plans to link to Wote Town.
