Kenya Airports Authority issues advisory on lost property procedures
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has issued an advisory regarding the retrieval of items left onboard aircraft or within airport premises. This follows a viral video showing a confrontation between a passenger and an airport worker over a lost mobile phone at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
KAA clarified that the individual involved in the video was airline personnel rather than a KAA employee. While expressing sympathy for the passenger's frustration, the Authority emphasized that specific security and accountability procedures must be followed to ensure property is returned to the rightful owner.
Under the clarified protocols, passengers seeking to recover lost belongings may be required to present original identification and complete relevant documentation before items are released. KAA is working with aviation stakeholders to increase passenger awareness of these verification procedures and encourages travelers to cooperate with airline or airport customer service teams when misplaced items are reported.
