Kenya Airways Acting CEO George Kamal resigns
Kenya Airways has announced the resignation of Acting Group Managing Director and CEO George Kamal, who cited ‘compassionate family reasons’ for his departure. Kamal, who assumed the role on December 16, 2025, will formally step down on September 30. Habil Waswani, the airline’s Company Secretary and Director of Legal Services and Regulatory Compliance, will take over as Acting Group MD and CEO effective September 15.
The airline’s Board of Directors has initiated the recruitment process for a permanent successor. This leadership change occurs amid a broader turnaround effort for the carrier, which includes the recent appointment of Kiprono Kittony as Board Chairman.
On the Nairobi Securities Exchange, Kenya Airways share prices showed resilience following the news. Despite the leadership transition, the stock price remained relatively stable, trading near KSh 5.70. Market analysts suggest the price movement may be more influenced by deteriorating financials and high fuel costs rather than the executive change. Meanwhile, the Board has approved an investment memorandum prepared by KPMG to pursue a capital raise and seek a strategic partner or investor.
