Kenya Airways appoints Habil Waswani as Acting CEO
Kenya Airways has announced a leadership change, with Habil Waswani appointed as Acting Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Waswani, who currently serves as the airline’s Company Secretary and Director of Legal Services, will officially assume the acting role on September 15, 2026.
This transition follows the departure of Captain George Kamal, who served as Acting GMD/CEO. Board Chairman Kiprono Kittony credited Kamal with stabilizing operations and managing recent executive transitions during his four-year tenure with the airline. Kamal previously joined the company as Chief Operating Officer in March 2023.
Waswani brings over 24 years of legal and corporate governance experience to the role, including more than five years at Kenya Airways. The airline’s board has initiated a competitive recruitment process to find a permanent GMD/CEO and remains focused on its turnaround strategy involving fleet optimization and seeking a strategic investor.
