Kenya and Ethiopia advance digital ID initiatives
Several African nations are advancing digital transformation through identity infrastructure and payment systems. Kenya is collaborating with France’s IN Groupe to develop a national authentication platform. The goal is to establish a secure, interoperable digital identity ecosystem that allows citizens to access public and private services while building public trust.
In Ethiopia, officials are exploring how the implementation of a digital ID system could potentially increase the nation’s GDP by 7%. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is addressing the cybersecurity risks associated with the rise of digital payments and online transactions.
