Kenya and global health bodies address antimicrobial resistance

Kenya’s Ministry of Health is exploring a partnership with Aranda to improve access to essential antibiotics and strengthen antimicrobial stewardship. During discussions between Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga and Aranda CEO Dr. Angus L. C. O’Shea, officials emphasized that expanding antibiotic access must be paired with enhanced diagnostic capacity, surveillance, and responsible prescribing to support Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage agenda.

On a global scale, the World Health Assembly has adopted the Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (GAP-AMR) 2026–2036. This plan highlights the necessity of a “One Health” approach, which requires coordinated action across human, animal, and environmental health sectors. Dental professionals are increasingly recognized as key contributors to this effort through infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship.
