Kenya and Uganda see sporting momentum in cricket and netball

Kenya's national cricket team secured a 39-run victory over defending champions Uganda at the Africa Cup in Kigali. This win serves as a momentum builder for the team as they prepare to host the Cricket World Cup Challenge League A in Nairobi next month. Currently ranked fifth in the six-team competition, Kenya is fighting to avoid relegation and reach the top two spots required to qualify for the 2026 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-Offs.

In netball, Uganda’s She Cranes have maintained an unbeaten start at the 2026 Africa Netball Cup. Following dominant victories over Nigeria and Zambia, the world-ranked sixth team is set to face hosts Kenya. Uganda’s performance in the tournament, which features ten leading African nations, positions them as a primary contender for the continental title, though upcoming matches against Kenya and Malawi are expected to provide significant challenges.
