Kenya and U.S. sign employment deal for government dependents

Kenya and the United States have signed the ‘Employment of Dependents of Official Employees’ agreement in Nairobi. The deal allows eligible spouses and qualifying dependents of Kenyan and U.S. government officials to seek employment in the host country while accompanying relatives on official assignments.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Frank Garcia met to finalize the arrangement. Mudavadi noted that the agreement aims to address challenges faced by families on foreign postings who previously lacked work authorization. The official clarified that this is not a general work program for all Kenyan citizens seeking employment in the U.S., but is specifically targeted at dependents of government officials.
