Kenya announces Eurobond plans and new economic transformation framework

Kenya is advancing several financial and developmental strategies to manage its public debt and shape its long-term economic future. According to a Finance Ministry borrowing plan, the nation intends to issue an $815 million Eurobond during the second quarter of the 2026/27 fiscal year. Additionally, the government plans to raise $500 million through Samurai bonds in the third quarter to fund infrastructure and development spending.

As part of its financing efforts, the Finance Ministry confirmed a $1 billion debt-for-food security swap with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation.

On the policy front, a new long-term development framework titled the ‘Beyond Vision 2030 Economic Transformation Plan’ is being developed to succeed the current Vision 2030 blueprint. A multi-sectoral working panel will be established to draft the proposal, which is expected to undergo public debate across all 47 counties before being presented to Parliament for legislation.
