Kenya Bankers Association launches training institute and urges rate stability
The Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) has launched the KBA Institute (KBAI) to enhance professional development within the financial services sector. In conjunction with the launch, the KBA signed a partnership agreement with the Central Bank of Kenya Institute of Monetary Studies (CBK-IMS). This collaboration aims to deliver training and certification in areas such as credit risk, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and climate risk. The two entities also plan to develop an East African Community Banking Certification Programme.
Separately, the KBA has urged the Central Bank of Kenya to maintain the Central Bank Rate (CBR) at 8.75 per cent during the upcoming Monetary Policy Committee meeting on October 7, 2026. The association argues that keeping the rate steady will support private sector credit and economic activity. While headline inflation rose to 6.8 per cent in September—driven by food and transport costs—the KBA noted that inflation remains within the central bank's target range and expects it to ease as agricultural harvests begin.
