Kenya car market prices climb over KSh1 million

A Jiji Kenya report shows the average price of a used car in Kenya has risen 72 % over the past two years, from about KSh 797,000 in 2024 to KSh 1.37 million in 2026. The rise follows the Kenya Revenue Authority’s revised Current Retail Selling Price (CRSP) schedule, which increased the customs value used to assess import duties on second‑hand vehicles. As a result, imported used cars now average around KSh 4.5 million, roughly three times the KSh 1.5 million average for locally sourced used vehicles. The median listing price for locally used cars has just passed the KSh 1 million mark, establishing a new pricing benchmark, while roughly half of all listings remain below KSh 2 million, keeping a range of options available. Jiji notes that pre‑owned vehicles continue to be an attractive, more affordable alternative to new cars, aided by online marketplaces that let buyers compare models, prices and locations directly with sellers.
