Kenya debates restroom access for cross-dressers

A debate has intensified in Kenya regarding the use of public restrooms by transgender and intersex individuals following controversial remarks by entrepreneur and cross-dresser Jony the Hairdresser. In a recent video, Jony suggested that such individuals should use portable toilets or diapers, claiming that women do not want them in women's bathrooms. This follows his previous admission that he uses women's washrooms because his feminine appearance often leads to him being mistaken for a woman.

The comments have sparked diverse reactions across social media. Some individuals, including TikToker Rakel Kenya, have suggested that the government should implement inclusive policies by creating separate, third-category toilet facilities for individuals with different gender identities.

However, others have expressed skepticism regarding these proposals. DJ Xclusive questioned the feasibility of building separate facilities, noting that Kenya remains a conservative society. He observed that while some support cross-dressers in other capacities, many women still express concerns regarding privacy and safety in women's washrooms.
