Experts suggest that marine cargo insurance must evolve beyond a mere administrative requirement for import clearance. Given the complexities of modern supply chains—including unpredictable shipping costs, climate-related risks, and changing laws—robust insurance is viewed as essential trust infrastructure. This is particularly relevant as Africa pursues the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) goals, which aim to create a single market for 1.3 billion people and significantly boost continental income by 2035.
