Kenya Emerging Stars defeat Tanzania 4-1 in U23 AFCON qualifier
Kenya’s U23 national team, the Emerging Stars, secured a significant advantage in their 2027 Africa U23 Cup of Nations qualifying campaign by defeating Tanzania 4-1 in the first leg at Nyayo National Stadium.
Kenya took an early lead in the first minute through striker Paul Osama. The hosts maintained dominance throughout the first half, with Lawrence Okoth scoring in stoppage time to make it 2-0. In the second half, Kevin Wangaya extended the lead to 3-0 in the 50th minute. Although Tanzania managed to reduce the deficit to 3-1 via a penalty, Kelly Madada scored Kenya’s fourth goal in the 74th minute to seal the victory.
If Kenya advances past Tanzania, they are scheduled to face Ivory Coast in the second round of qualifying. Only eight nations will qualify for the continental finals.
