Kenya guarantees ID and voter rights for diaspora citizens
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has affirmed that Kenyans living abroad will not be denied their constitutional rights to national identification documents or voter registration. Addressing concerns regarding citizens residing in neighboring countries, Murkomen stated that the government will not discriminate against the diaspora based on their place of residence.
He noted that the State Department for Diaspora Affairs exists specifically to support Kenyans outside national borders. Murkomen emphasized that obtaining an ID is a critical gateway to government services, employment, and participation in democratic processes.
During a regional tour in Trans Nzoia County, the Cabinet Secretary also highlighted government efforts to combat the smuggling of contraband and the distribution of illicit alcohol and narcotics.
