Kenya infrastructure: Kakamega County proposes KSh12B road plan

Kakamega County has proposed an ambitious transport development plan to upgrade or construct 200 kilometres of roads to bitumen standard. The project, estimated to cost KSh12 billion, was highlighted by Governor Fernandes Barasa during discussions regarding collaboration between the county and national governments. Proposed works include the Malaha-Khaunga road, the Nyaporo-Petros and Indoli bridges, and other developments in Mumias East.

In a related development for national infrastructure, the Kenya Roads Board has launched a fresh registration process for suppliers, contractors, and consultants. This exercise aims to update the pool of eligible firms for the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 financial years. The registration covers the supply of goods, execution of works, and provision of services to support the Board’s operations and various road-related programmes across the country.
