Kenya launches $7 million US-backed police modernization project

President William Ruto has launched a project to modernize police training facilities at the National Police College Main Campus in Kiganjo, Nyeri County. The initiative includes the groundbreaking of the Chief Physical Training Instructor Grounds to better prepare officers for modern security challenges.

The modernization effort is supported by a $7 million (Ksh930 million) initiative from the United States and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). According to Susan M. Burns, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Kenya, the project aims to enhance professionalism and help the police service address evolving threats such as terrorism, human trafficking, and wildlife trafficking.

During the ceremony, which coincided with a passing-out parade for new police recruits, President Ruto congratulated the officers on completing their training and emphasized the responsibility of law enforcement to protect citizens while respecting their powers.
