Kenya launches biodiversity initiative and advances US health cooperation

Kenya has launched the SYstemic Learning and Mainstreaming of BIOdiversity Targets for Innovative Transformation and Behavioral Change (SYMBIOTIC) Initiative. This program aims to integrate biodiversity into national policy, finance, and investment planning. Working with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, the initiative supports Kenya’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and international commitments under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

In a separate development, Kenya and the United States are entering a new phase of health cooperation. Discussions between Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and the U.S. CDC Kenya Country Director focused on transitioning to a Government-to-Government Health Cooperation Framework. This shift aims to strengthen national institutions and ensure sustainable, country-led delivery of public health services. The partnership has historically contributed to significant declines in HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria incidence in Kenya.
