Kenya launches bioeconomy strategy and begins Vision 2060 planning

Kenya has launched several major long-term development initiatives aimed at driving industrialization and economic resilience. On August 25, 2026, Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi introduced the National Bioeconomy Strategy 2026-2036. This ten-year roadmap seeks to transform biological resources into value-added products within sectors such as agriculture, health, energy, and biotechnology, reducing the nation's reliance on raw material exports.

To support this, the government is deploying 47 county industrial and aggregation parks (CAIPs) to strengthen local value chains and address infrastructure deficits. Simultaneously, the country has begun the process of developing Vision 2060, a new 30-year blueprint intended to succeed Vision 2030. This upcoming vision aims to address modern challenges including climate change, demographic shifts, and the rise of artificial intelligence, with a focus on the digital economy, green manufacturing, and agribusiness.
