Kenya launches blockchain platform to secure 35 million academic records

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has introduced a nationwide e‑certification system built on the Avalanche blockchain. The platform anchors historical examination results dating back to 1989 and will eventually protect around 35 million academic credentials, including millions of new certificates issued each year. Over 15 million records are already on‑chain, allowing employers, universities and government agencies to verify qualifications instantly, cutting verification times from weeks to seconds and reducing the risk of forged documents. A local technology partner handles the conversion of paper certificates into non‑repudiable digital credentials signed on Avalanche’s C‑Chain, marking one of the largest public‑sector blockchain projects in the world.
