Kenya launches national digital mineral royalty management system

CSM Technologies Limited has deployed Kenya’s national Royalty Management System (RMS) for the State Department for Mining. The digital platform, which went live on September 28, serves as the official nationwide channel for the declaration, assessment, payment, and monitoring of mineral royalties.

The system is designed to support the implementation of the Mining Act, Cap 306, by allowing mineral right holders and licensed dealers to complete the entire compliance process online. This includes digital registration, filing declarations, receiving automated assessments, and making payments. For government agencies, the platform provides real-time visibility into royalty accruals and collections, utilizing secure audit trails to improve transparency and reduce manual intervention.

The deployment follows a period of growth in Kenya’s mining and quarrying sector, which grew 14.9% in 2025. Under the current revenue-sharing framework, royalty proceeds are distributed among the National Government (70%), County Governments (20%), and host communities (10%).
