Kenya launches process for new development blueprint to 2060
President William Ruto has initiated a national dialogue to develop Kenya’s next long-term development blueprint, intended to succeed Vision 2030 and extend to the year 2060.
The new framework aims to address modern challenges that were not present when Vision 2030 was launched in 2008, specifically citing rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, technological shifts, and the escalating impact of climate change. The process will also account for the 2010 Constitution, which established a different system of governance and public participation compared to the previous era.
The proposed plan is expected to cover sectors including industrialization, economic transformation, infrastructure, energy, and human capital. The development process is intended to be inclusive, seeking input from citizens, political leaders, the private sector, and experts across all 47 counties.
While the initiative marks a transition in national planning, officials noted that Kenya has faced challenges in meeting the original Vision 2030 goal of attaining upper-middle-income status by the end of this decade. Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi emphasized that the vision is a long-term national project rather than a personal administration goal.
