Kenya medical interns and MoH staff to receive delayed salaries by September 2

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has announced that delayed salaries for medical interns and Ministry of Health staff are expected to be paid by Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah stated that following discussions with the Ministry of Health, the government agreed to process intern and staff salaries concurrently. The payroll exercise was scheduled to begin on Saturday, August 29, with funds expected to reach accounts within the following week.

The delays were attributed to the late submission of essential documentation by medical interns. According to the union, fewer than 300 interns had submitted the required paperwork by the deadline during the July payroll cycle, which prevented timely processing.
