Kenya Medical Training College faces recruitment legal challenge and curriculum review
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is facing simultaneous legal and structural challenges. Lawyer Charles Mugane has filed a petition in the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi seeking to halt the recruitment of 20 senior teaching and management positions. The petition alleges that the recruitment process violates constitutional requirements for fair, transparent, and merit-based appointments, specifically questioning why certain lecturer positions were advertised internally rather than externally.
Separately, KMTC Chief Executive Officer Kelly Oluoch announced that the institution will review and reorganize its 126 academic programmes. This decision follows concerns raised by the National Assembly’s Health Committee regarding graduate unemployment. Members of Parliament urged the college to align its curriculum with labour market demands, particularly within the public sector, to ensure students can secure meaningful employment upon completion of their studies.
