Kenya National Highways Authority sees vandal sentenced to two years for road theft

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) welcomed the sentencing of Fredrick Rakoro for vandalising road infrastructure on the Mombasa‑Mariakani (A8) Highway near Jomvu. Rakoro was arrested by the Axle Load Enforcement Highway Unit (ALEHU) in the Coast Region, pleaded guilty under Section 24 of the Scrap Metal Act, 2015, and was sentenced by the Mombasa Law Courts to two years’ imprisonment at Shimo La Tewa Prison.

KeNHA condemned the theft of drainage structures and reinforcement bars, warning that such acts waste public resources, endanger motorists and undermine the national road network. The authority urged the public to report any incidents of road‑asset vandalism or theft to the relevant authorities.
