Kenya: New candidates enter 2027 Women Representative races

Several candidates have declared their intentions to contest Women Representative seats in Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In Nairobi, Saumu Mbuvi, daughter of former governor Mike Sonko, has officially joined the race on the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) ticket. Running under the banner ‘A New Voice for a Brighter Nairobi’, Mbuvi intends to prioritize education, skills development, employment, health, and safety. She joins a crowded field of aspirants including Karen Nyamu, Tabitha Mutinda, Millicent Omanga, and Faith Nguthu.

In Wajir County, journalist Deqsan Abdi Hassan has entered the race for the Wajir County Women Representative position. Hassan’s platform focuses on youth and women empowerment, specifically targeting economic inclusion, digital skills, and entrepreneurship. She aims to create platforms for young people to participate in governance and support women-led enterprises across the six constituencies of Wajir.
