Kenya ODM-UDA coalition targets 17 million votes, urges Western Kenya deputy pick

ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga said the Orange Democratic Movement will form a coalition with President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance ahead of the 2027 general election, estimating the alliance could secure about 17 million votes. The statement was made during youth league celebrations in Kajiado County and echoed by party leaders across the country.

In parallel, political leaders from Western Kenya, aligned with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, urged President Ruto to select a running‑mate from the region after the United Democratic Alliance suffered a defeat in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by‑election. Governors, MPs and local officials argued that appointing Wetangula would consolidate the coalition’s support base in the area. President Ruto congratulated the by‑election winner and called for a focus on service delivery over political drama.
