Kenya opposition leaders demand justice on Mashujaa Day
During Mashujaa Day celebrations, Kenyan opposition leaders called for accountability regarding the deaths of protesters during the June 2024 demonstrations. Martha Karua of the People's Liberation Party honored victims such as Rex Masai, while Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka reflected on the loss of young protesters.
Boniface Mwangi of the Ukweli Party criticized the government, citing concerns over poverty, land inequality, and the targeting of individuals for online expression. The Linda Mwananchi Movement also issued a statement condemning an attack on former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza at Githongo Market. The movement reported that Mwangaza’s vehicles were destroyed and staff members were injured during the incident, which occurred while she was attending celebrations invited by the County Commissioner.
Additionally, the Linda Mwananchi Movement criticized the Council of Governors for its silence regarding alleged threats and intimidation faced by both Mwangaza and Governor George Natembeya.
