Kenya DPP orders probe into Eastleigh building collapse

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch a thorough investigation into the collapse of a multi-storey building in the Eastleigh neighborhood of Nairobi. The probe aims to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, which resulted in injuries, property damage, and missing persons.

The investigation will examine whether acts or omissions by Nairobi City County officials, the private developer, contractors, or other construction professionals involved in the planning, approval, supervision, or construction contributed to the collapse. The ODPP clarified that it had not previously received any inquiry files from the Nairobi City County Government regarding alleged malpractices related to the project.

Upon completion of the DCI's investigation, the findings will be submitted to the ODPP for independent review. The office stated it will pursue prosecutorial action against any individuals found criminally culpable, regardless of their professional position or status.
