Kenya political leaders mobilize regional support for 2027 elections

Political leaders and community elders in Kenya are mobilizing regional support ahead of the 2027 general election. In Western Kenya, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi launched the Magharibi Movement. This initiative aims to rally voters from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga, and Trans Nzoia counties behind President William Ruto’s reelection campaign while ensuring the region maintains political influence.

In the Mt Kenya East region, a coalition of elders including the Njuri Ncheke Supreme Council has called for increased infrastructure development, specifically requesting a dual carriageway connecting Makutano through Embu, Chuka, Meru, and Maua. The elders also urged political reciprocity from Mt Kenya West, advocating for support for Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to consolidate the region’s political influence and support his future presidential ambitions.
