Kenya political updates: 2022 running mate reveals and 2027 endorsements

Political developments in Kenya have highlighted internal dynamics regarding President William Ruto’s administration and past election strategies. Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro revealed that during the lead-up to the 2022 General Election, the Kenya Kwanza team approached former Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia and Equity Group CEO James Mwangi to serve as running mates. Both individuals reportedly declined the offers. Nyoro noted that the search focused on candidates from Murang’a County with minimal political baggage, but the team faced challenges due to the political standing of the UDA at the time.

Separately, journalist and Nyakach parliamentary aspirant Trevor Ombija has declared his support for President Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid. Aligning himself with the “TUTAM” movement, Ombija praised the administration’s infrastructure projects, specifically citing the commencement of highway construction in the Nyanza region as a significant improvement over decades of neglect. Ombija has urged Kenyans to grant the president another term to complete his development agenda.
