Kenya Ports Authority clarifies Mombasa Port crane incident

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has issued a clarification regarding an operational incident involving a Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) crane at the Port of Mombasa. The incident occurred on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at approximately 3:40 p.m.

According to the authority, no fatalities or serious injuries were reported. The truck tractor operator involved was unharmed, while the RTG operator sustained minor soft tissue injuries to his legs. The operator was taken to a hospital for evaluation and has since been discharged.

KPA stated that safety and emergency response teams attended to the scene immediately. The authority is currently conducting a comprehensive review and investigation to establish the exact circumstances and cause of the incident to implement necessary corrective measures.
