Nairobi water utility announces three-day emergency supply interruption

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has announced a three-day water supply interruption affecting over 80 residential, commercial, and institutional areas across the capital. The shutdown is due to an emergency repair of the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete pipeline, initiated by the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA).

The interruption is scheduled to begin at 11:59 pm on Monday, October 26, 2026, and is expected to conclude by 11:59 pm on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

Major affected areas include Riverside, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Westlands, Parklands, Karen, and Upper Hill. Significant institutions and diplomatic sites also face disruptions, including the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) campus, the U.S. Embassy, Kenyatta National Hospital, and Nairobi Hospital. Other impacted zones include Ngong Road, Kibera, Jamhuri, Lang’ata, Nairobi West, and Ngara.

NCWSC Managing Director Martin Nang’ole has urged residents and businesses to conserve and store adequate water reserves to mitigate the impact of the shortage.
