Kenyan President William Ruto warns against June 25 protests as opposition urges calm

President William Ruto told a national productivity conference that any attempt to cause chaos, destroy property or disrupt essential services ahead of the June 25 protest anniversary will not be tolerated. He said the government will protect the right to protest but insists demonstrations must not interfere with economic and social stability.

The United States Embassy in Nairobi issued a security advisory warning its citizens that demonstrations are expected in major urban centers, especially the Central Business District, and could lead to traffic congestion and roadblocks.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) subsequently urged its supporters not to join the planned commemorative protests, stating the party remains committed to the broad‑based government and wants to focus on delivering development commitments rather than street actions.
