Kenya President William Ruto orders crackdown on violent goons as his website is hacked

President William Ruto told security agencies to move against "goons" and other criminal elements, warning that election‑related violence could threaten Kenya’s stability. He cited the devastation in Khartoum as a cautionary example and stressed that while peaceful demonstrations are a constitutional right, criminal acts during protests will not be tolerated.

Separately, Kenya’s presidential website was defaced by unknown hackers who demanded a ransom of five Bitcoin (about $320,000) and threatened to leak stolen files. The site was restored after the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy said no sensitive data had been accessed. The National Computer and Cybercrime Coordination Committee (NC4) and technical teams are conducting a forensic investigation.
