Kenya pushes AI, digital infrastructure and e‑mobility growth with South Korean partnership

Kenya is deepening its technology partnership with South Korea. In a meeting between Principal Secretary Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui and Korea Exim Bank director Byunghyun Hwang, the two sides reviewed progress on the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya‑AIST) and discussed new AI and digital infrastructure projects at Konza Technopolis, including a Digital Media City and an AI data centre. An upcoming South Korean delegation in August is expected to expand cooperation in ICT, cultural exchange and policy development.

Separately, Kenya’s National Electric Mobility Policy has set a strategic direction for the e‑mobility sector, backed by fiscal incentives and private capital. The policy aims to reduce regulatory and governance uncertainties to attract long‑term investment and enable commercial scaling of electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and battery‑as‑a‑service models. Coordinated regulatory guidance and improved governance are highlighted as key to building investor confidence and achieving sustainable growth in the sector.
