Kenya Railways arrests suspect for SGR wire vandalism

Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has arrested a suspect for allegedly vandalizing copper earthing wires along the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). The individual was apprehended at K375, located between the Sultan and Lesonkoyo passing stations, after CCTV surveillance detected an intrusion.

Security teams, police, and local community members collaborated to track and detain the suspect, who remains in police custody. Preliminary investigations suggest the individual may be linked to other incidents of equipment destruction along the railway corridor. KRC warned that tampering with railway infrastructure, such as copper earthing wires and signaling cables, can have severe consequences for train services and passenger safety.

The Corporation emphasized that railway vandalism is a serious crime. Under Penal Code 233 (e), any person who endangers the safety of railway travelers through such acts is guilty of a felony and may face life imprisonment.
