Kenya recovers UK-stolen Land Rover during international vehicle theft crackdown
Kenyan detectives, working alongside INTERPOL, have recovered a luxury Land Rover Discovery that was reported stolen in the United Kingdom. The vehicle was located at a motor vehicle yard along Nairobi County’s Northern Bypass during Operation Carback II.
Operation Carback II was a week-long, multi-agency enforcement exercise conducted under INTERPOL’s Project Drive Out, in collaboration with Europol. The initiative targeted organized criminal networks involved in motor vehicle theft, the trafficking of stolen parts, and the concealment of vehicle identities. During the operation, Kenyan authorities physically inspected more than 1,800 vehicles and cross-referenced over 260,000 records against international databases.
The crackdown spanned several regions in Kenya, including Nairobi, Eastern, Central, Nyanza, Western, Coast, and Rift Valley. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) noted that the operation aimed to disrupt transnational theft syndicates and strengthen international intelligence-sharing and cross-border policing cooperation.
