Kenya Registrar of Companies dissolves 176 firms
The Kenyan Registrar of Companies has dissolved 176 firms from the official register, with an additional 155 companies earmarked for dissolution starting in December 2026. Deputy Registrar Hiram Gachugi confirmed the actions were taken pursuant to Section 897 of the Companies Act.
The dissolutions target companies that have failed to meet statutory obligations, such as filing annual returns, maintaining up-to-date records, or meeting anti-money laundering requirements. Some entities were also removed for being dormant or shell companies, while others were struck off following insolvency or voluntary liquidation proceedings.
The affected businesses span numerous sectors, including transport, automotive, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, energy, petroleum, construction, textiles, and consulting services. The list includes several international entities, such as an Ireland-headquartered global building materials company. While the exact number of employees affected has not been confirmed, the closures raise concerns regarding unemployment and the rising cost of living in Kenya.
