Kenya Revenue Authority implements new digital reforms for tax and port efficiency

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is introducing new digital reforms aimed at enhancing tax compliance and port efficiency. As part of a new stock management requirement, businesses using TIMS and eTIMS must maintain accurate records of all goods movement, including purchases, sales, transfers, and returns. To ensure a smooth transition, the KRA will host consultative forums with the business community starting in September 2026.

Simultaneously, the KRA and the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) have partnered to improve cargo clearance at the Port of Mombasa. Key initiatives include the Advanced Cargo Declaration (ACD) system, which allows for pre-arrival documentation processing, and a Smart Gate pilot at Gate 24 to automate truck identification. These measures are designed to reduce congestion, accelerate cargo evacuation, and create a more predictable environment for regional trade along the Northern Corridor.
