Kenya rhino population grows by 9% amid conservation milestones

Kenya’s rhino population has increased by nearly nine percent in a single year, growing from 2,102 in 2024 to 2,282 in 2025. According to the Kenya Wildlife Service, this addition of 180 rhinos indicates successful progress in protecting the endangered species. Conservation efforts include enhanced monitoring, such as ear-notching at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to allow for individual identification and tracking.

To celebrate World Rhino Day 2026, Nairobi will host the African premiere of ‘RHINO’, a feature documentary directed by Tom Martienssen and narrated by Tom Hardy. The screening, scheduled for 26 September at the Trademark Hotel, highlights the work of rangers, veterinarians, and communities involved in rhino conservation. The event is organized by Loisaba Conservancy with support from various partners, including Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Borana Conservancy, and the Kenya Wildlife Service.
