Kenya School of Law suspends admissions following court order
The Kenya School of Law (KSL) has temporarily suspended applications for its 2027/2028 Advocates Training Programme (ATP) following interim orders from the High Court. The suspension was announced on October 15, 2026, after a legal dispute arose regarding revised admission requirements for the upcoming academic year.
Justice John Onyiego issued conservatory orders on October 6, barring KSL and the Council of Legal Education (CLE) from admitting students under the contested criteria. Petitioners in the case argue that the changes to admission standards were implemented without following the necessary regulatory processes, such as obtaining required parliamentary approval.
The institution stated that it will stop receiving applications until the court provides further directions and determines the matter. KSL apologized for the inconvenience to prospective students and stakeholders, noting that the suspension occurs ahead of the original November 13 application deadline.
