Kenya Scouts Set Guinness Record for Largest Simultaneous Mangrove Planting

The Kenya Scouts Association, together with the Kenya Forest Service, planted 4,124 mangrove saplings simultaneously at the Jomvu Kuu Mangrove Site in Mombasa County, officially breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous mangrove‑tree planting. The exercise, part of Kenya’s coastal restoration programme, met all Guinness guidelines, including correct planting depth, spacing and the prohibition of machinery.

In a parallel effort, thousands of coastal students gathered at the Kwa Fara beachfront in Jomvu constituency and attempted to plant 5,000 mangrove seedlings within 30 seconds, aligning with the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem. Both events underscore Kenya’s push to restore mangrove forests, which protect coastlines, support marine biodiversity, enhance fisheries and sequester carbon. Forestry Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa hailed the achievements as a milestone in the nation’s environmental conservation agenda under President William Ruto.
